Function and ApplicationThe crankshaft sensor is used in automotive engine ignition system. By inducing crankshaft TDC
signal to send the Ignition timing signal to the ECU while providing the engine speed signal.
Classification
Crankshaft position sensor usually has a Hall-type , Magnetic-electric type and Photoelectric type.
Hall-type and Magnetic-electric type are more used on the vehicle. Our company mainly produces

Principle of work with Magnetic-electric crankshaft position sensor
According to the electromagnetic induction principle design, when the Signal of ferromagnetic material
wheel rotation, Signal round uniform distribution of teeth will cause cyclical changes of the air gap
between the sensor and signal round, it will make change through the coil magnetic field lines.
The same amplitude and frequency in the coil and direction of cyclical changes in the sine wave signal.
When the signal round has a missing teeth, it will produce different signal amplitude and frequency of
missing teeth, this will be deemed to be a Crankshaft TDC signal.
Principle of work with Hall crankshaft position sensor
Hall crankshaft position sensor is a magnetic field sensor based on Hall effect. When the current
perpendicular to the external magnetic field through a conductor, conductor perpendicular to the
magnetic field and current direction between the two end will appears the potential difference, this
phenomenon is called the Hall effect. The components made by the Hall effect is known as the Hall
element. The sensor made by the Hall element are known as the Hall sensor. Signal wheel rotates
evenly spaced teeth will cause the change of the magnetic field between the sensor and signal round,
also produce Hall effect, Hall output Outputs the square wave signal. When the signal round has a
missing teeth, it will outputs the different Duty cycle signal,
this will be deemed to be a Crankshaft TDC signal.
